Armour College of Engineering Alumnus Manu Vora (M.S. CHE ’70, Ph.D. ’75) received the 28th Simon Collier Quality Award on November 21 from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Los Angeles Section for his outstanding achievement in the field of quality.

Armour College of Engineering Alumnus Manu Vora (M.S. CHE ’70, Ph.D. ’75) was recently selected on a Fulbright Specialist roster. The appointment is for a five-year term from 2016-2021. The program is managed by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the Institute of International Education’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). The Roster is a list of all candidates who are eligible to be matched with incoming project requests from overseas academic institutions for Fulbright Specialists.

Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, John L. Anderson, was quoted in Science Magazine about the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) pilot that requires universities to pay 10% of the salaries of faculty members working temporarily at the agency. Dr. Anderson serves as chair of the NSF Committee on Audit and Oversight which ensures that NSF is properly evaluating and managing its operational risks.

Darsh Wasan, Vice President for International Affairs and Distinguished Motorola Professor of Chemical Engineering at Armour College of Engineering, was named the recipient of the 2016 Elsevier Particle Technology Forum (PTF) Lifetime Achievement Award. Wasan was nominated by Hamid Arastoopour, Henry R. Linden Professor of Engineering Director of the Wanger Institute for Sustainability and Energy Research (WISER) at Armour College of Engineering.

Svetlana Taylor (CHE, 4th year) was named a recipient of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Environmental Chemistry 2016 Undergraduate Award. Students selected for the honor must be full-time undergraduate students currently enrolled in chemistry, environmental engineering, or other programs emphasizing environmental chemistry who have completed one full year of study at their current institution.

Illinois Institute of Technology Office of Research hosted the 2016 Illinois Tech Research Day Poster Competition on April 11, 2016 in Hermann Hall. Students from Armour College of Engineering who also participated in Armour R&D were named the recipients of all three undergraduate awards at the competition.

Armour College of Engineering’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) co-hosted the annual ChBE Awards Dinner with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Illinois Institute of Technology student chapter on April 28, 2016 in the Tech Park Atrium. The event was well attended by alumni, students, faculty, and staff.

Thea Davis (CHE, 5th year) delivered the senior address and Catherine A. O’Connor (Ph.D. ‘03), Director of Engineering at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, gave the alumni address.

Recent Armour College of Engineering Alumna Sara Glade (ChE, ‘15, M.S. EnvE, ‘15) was awarded a 2016 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship includes individuals who have gone on to make breakthroughs in their areas of expertise and been honored as Nobel laureates.
