  • Synthesis, characterization and application of carbon-based nanomaterials and metal oxide low dimensional nanomaterials
  • Electronic, optoelectronic and photovoltaic application of various semiconductors, such as II-VI semiconductor nanostructures, carbon nanotube, graphene, ternary metal oxides
  • Energy harvesting and storage system, such as hybrid solar cells, dye-sensitized solar cells, Li-ion batteries, and Na-based flow batteries
  • Fabricating 3D nanostructure and hierarchical nanoarchitectures for the application in optic electronics and energy storage/utilization
  • Optical and electron spectroscopy techniques, including photoluminescence, optical absorption, Raman scattering spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy

Research 

  • Design, fabricate and test new type of flow batteries, termed as hybrid Na-based flow batteries which offer some unmatched advantages over conventional RFBs, including (i) high cell voltages (> 3 V), (ii) multiple electron transfer redox reactions per active ion, (iii) ultrahigh energy densities (> 300 Wh/L and > 500 Wh/kg), and (iv) low costs due to no pumping energy consumption in the anode.
  • Design and fabricate high capacity Li/Na ion batteries.
